Used Motor Oil, Oil Filter and Bottle Recycling
Used motor oil, oil filters and motor oil bottles can be recycled at one of the 18 recycling centers in Spartanburg County. Click here to see a complete list of locations.
DID YOU KNOW? Motor oil is banned from disposal in South Carolina landfills. As a result, there is a fee of two cents per quart of oil to ensure it is properly recycled. The funding is used to pay for activities of Department of Health and Environmental Control's Office of Solid Waste Reduction and Recycling (Office). The Office provides grant funding to local governments (including Spartanburg County) to ensure the proper disposal and recycling of used oil, oil filters and oil bottles.
NOTE: The state has no other fees associated with the sale of oil. Retailers may charge additional environmental fees for recycling or proper disposal as a matter of company policy.
Used oil that is poured down drains and improperly disposed used filters and containers contaminate ground water, rivers, and lakes. Not only does this pollution harm plants and wildlife, it also contaminates your drinking water.
By taking your used oil to a recycling center, you are keeping it from harming our environment, and the oil can be refined and re-used!
